love general tso chicken...sweet with alittle tang usually .. tonight my lips are burning .. like it the old way 😝
One time good, the next time the food did not smell right and I dumped it. The kitchen and the cook has a sloppy, even dirty, appearance. Cook (owner) walks around eating in front if you. The woman is not friendly. The bathroom has no towel paper.... The seating area is simply uncared for. The placed could be a goldmine if the owners woke up. In the meantime the place always is empty around dinner time. Hamburg can spend as much money as they want on neighborhood revitalization, but a few more caring business owners, like some of Hop Poh's neighbors, would make the greater difference. Every good neighborhood has good restaurants, first and foremost.
Food we got was good.
Very best Chinese next to jumbo China buffet and happy garden Chinese restaurant.
Only ate there one time, food was excellent and the prices were good.
Great food and prices! Quick service.
Very good food but the place it self seems dirty the restroom was filthy and no towels or hand dryer
Very good food. Fast service.
If you like waiting an hour longer than they tell you and love hair in your food, this is the place for you. One star, would wait in line at time machine of a restaurant again.
It's a weird experience ordering food over the phone. They always have it made but I am never sure how long it's going to take or how much it is going to cost. The conversation is "Hello, could I order*Item*" "Is that it?" "Yeah" "Ok bye"And then they hang up. I hate talking to people on the phone so this is great. 4/5
Best general tsos on the planet! I have been coming here my whole life and that will continue until my untimely death at a young age. Prices are fair and food is always tasty.
I absolutely love this place! The lady who takes my order is always there, and she is super nice. The food is always hot and fresh and delicious and the price is great. Today I bought a quart of pork fried lo mein, a quart of shrimp lo mein, a pint of pork fried rice, 2 pork egg rolls, 2 cheese steak egg rolls, and 2 bags of crispy noodles and it only came out to 30 dollars. That is enough food for a few days!!!and unlike another Chinese restaurant in Hamburg who I will not name, they have never told me they will be open for another hour and a half and be closed by the time I get there 15 minutes later. This is a great little place to get your Chinese food fix!!!
Ordered take out, whatever you do avoid any appetizers.... the ribs were dry and inedible. The shrimp toast was spongy and flavorless, the chicken skewers were tolerable. The singapore mei fun I ordered was at least decent, kinda lacking in meat but the flavor was there.Avoid apps and pu pu platter.
Just at there tonight, actually! (Not the first time, however.) Good take-out and good food. It's not going to be the best Chinese you've ever had, but it's certainly not bad! My wife and I enjoy some Hop Poh every once in a while and we are please!
Been eating here for over 20 years. Best Chinese around .
Food is usually ok. Just watched the boss lady go to bathroom and not wash hands and touch , someone else's, food. Last time here.
Excellent food at a decent price. Worth the wait for sure.
The areas best Chinese takeout! The Food is typical American-style Chinese, and the General Tso's, Sesame, and Orange Chicken are always EXCELLENT. We eat their food about once every other month - usually trying one new thing. They ALWAYS get the order right, and I've never had to wait more than 3 minutes when coming to pick up a called-in order. If you walk in and order in person, EXPECT to wait while its cooked - because they cook it FRESH. This place is hands-down, better than the other two nearby. The eggrolls, dumplings, and everything else we've tried here over the last 14 years has been really fantastic. Never had bad food, ever.
This place used to be good I spent 64.00 there today and the food was so bad we couldn’t eat it I have never had food that you couldn’t even eat until this place. We will never eat from them again.
Great place for takeout. Love their General Tso's chicken
Good lunch specials
Called at 5:35 p.m. they told me 30 minutes I took my break at 6:00 p.m. got there at 6:10 p.m. I got there my food was still not ready I waited till 6:40 pm my food was still not ready and I only have a 30 minute break so I have to go to work hungry and late because I did not receive my food
I never do reviews but this place was so awful that I want to make sure nobody has to experience it. Waited 30 minutes for our food. My one crab ragoon didn't have any filling, my rice tasted terrible, and I almost choked on a piece of plastic that was IN MY RICE!
My wife and I pulled into Hamburg after driving for 3.5 hrs. Saw this Chinese place n decided to stop. When we walked in there was a younger woman, a older woman, and a man ... we stood at the counter for 10 mins looking at them without being acknowledged once. I said “can we order” when the woman made eye contact with me. I thought she was going to say something but instead grabbed the phone at the counter and walked away. I was shocked. So, we just left.... weirdest experience ever.
Frist time there and so far no complaints. Will have to go back and try there platters.
Food is excellent, great quantity and quality for the money.
It was ok.as far as chinese goes
Food is usually awesome. That being said. They are very rude. But to my knowledge they have never messed up my order. When I call in, me: "I would like 1 platter of general tsos chicken." Them:"ok" HANGUP. Never ask for a name or anything. Never a mistake.
Horrible. Never again. Someone from my family was eating sesame chicken and spit out a FINGER NAIL. Disgusted all of us.
Hey nah, I've been eating at this good food eating place, for quite a long time don't ya know. They serve up some pretty good fixen's at this family owned and operated business. If you be a picky eater, and need perfect food, well then, I guess maybe you better stay home and cook your own food. For me, every single time I get food here, it is always delicious, and hot. Almost everything is made fresh, and always fresh out of the wok. The meat they use is fresh, not frozen like many other eating places serve. Sometimes I stop here at least once a week, it depends on the season. Summer time is my grilling time of the year, ya know! So, the next time your belly starts growling, why don't you stop by this locally owned business, and eat yourself full.
Not much room maybe only 3 tables but food was good...
Food is decent, not the best I've had and they also charged my card twice and I had to dispute it with my bank.
Good General tsos shrimp
It spite of its looks the food was good and the place was clean...
Area's best Chinese take-out.... Yes. Only because there's no other options. I went in the other day to pick up an order... you can tell that little to no effort is being taken in making the dine-in experience enjoyable. The heat was off in the middle of winter (all employees were wearing winter jackets and gloves... except the cook). The decor, furniture, and unkempt fish tank seemed long ignored. The woman at the register was terse and unpleasant. She tossed my credit card back on the counter in front of me, avoided any eye, and made no effort towards nicety. Like taking my money was an inconvenience to her. This place has been around for a long time now... I remember when it first opened... the whole town was excited and business was good. It saddened me to see how run down and tired the place was on this occasion. I will say however, all the food was enjoyed by my eaters... especially those crab wontons/rangoons.
I love hop poh! Some of the best Chinese I've ever had. Very authentic, I have a personal relationship with some of the workers. They are very nice and I don't know why everyone is going on about how unfriendly they are!
Love the food . always good service
I've know Lee and Wa Jun (they use their last name 1st. Jun Lee & Jun Wa) for 20 years now. They used to own Happy Garden down the road in that Surplus Home Cntr strip mall off 183. They call that Bernville too. Anyway the food is the best out there anywhere you can find. I am an expert in Chinese food after traveling the US for my business for years. It is a take out place but who cares! The food is consistant and the best I've ever had. You will never be surprized there except for eating great food.
Place is dirty. Was told 15 min for 3 soup and 2 egg roll. That I expect when I get there there is a line no one is helping people. And then told 20 min for my order.
Great lilttle gem in Hamburg, they took longer than usual, but totally worth it,food is slamming...food so good made me wanna live in Hamburg just to eat there.
My favorite local Chinese restaurant. Best General Tso's around.
We’ve ordered from here in the past and rarely have a problem. They often run out of bone-in spare ribs (my husbands fav), but other than that, food has always been good. HOWEVER, last night, I ordered Veggie Chow Mein. What I got was lobster sauce with three pieces of broccoli, some shoots, and not a noodle in sight. I’m vegan. I try hard to order dishes that are as close to vegan as possible (yes, I know...I can’t guarantee what I get is 100% vegan, but I do my best). Lobster sauce AIN’T it. Seriously?!?!? We even clearly marked a menu before we ordered so there’d be no confusion about what we wanted. Won’t get takeout from here ever again. Not a happy camper!
Hop Poh Chinese Restaurant is located in Hamburg Pennsylvania. I visited there on the last day of spring in 2018. I was the only one there, looked over the menu, but decided to leave because the dining area is not air conditioned. There was similar situation at a restaurant in Orwigsburg later that day and I walked out of that place too. It’s hot outside and I want to dine in comfort. Oh well, perhaps next time when I’m in the Hamburg area.
My Wife and I went to the HOP-POH, and could not believe how people eat there. The plates were covered in grime and grease, and the chicken smelled like it had gone bad, the greens inside of the egg-roll were brown and every piece of meat felt slimy and smelled rancid. When I brought this to the hostess's attention, she proceeded to open up the chicken finger with her bare hands and eat it. We have contacted the Board of Health, since we've both got sick from just a bite. DO NOT GO HERE!! YOU WILL GET SICK!!!
By far the best chinese around. Food is always fresh, tasty and spot on. Best General Tso ive ever eaten. Love this place!
Sweet & sour sauce was runny. Nothing had much flavor at all. I was just glad to find Chinese food that was open at this point. The guy cooking looked like he hasn't bathed in quite a while
The food is OK and the owners are friendly. The seating area and the presentation is uncared for, though. The place could be a goldmine if it was maintained properly. The outside sign remains in disrepair for some time. Why don't they just fix it?
Good food! And we didn't have to wait long. Friendly people. We will be back.
The food is pretty decent. The service is hit or miss. But nothing I've experienced would keep me from coming back.
Love it here. Food is always hot, fresh and tastes great. Love it!
